| The path of meditative development and liberation described in the Buddhist teachings rests, among other things, on the beautiful quality of generosity – ‘Dana‘ in Pali, the language of the Buddha. According to the early Buddhist texts, emphasising the value of generosity was central to the initial teachings offered by the Buddha. Only after appreciating this virtue would other aspects of the teachings be introduced.
Generosity can profoundly transform the way in which we perceive the world. It is a way of being that opens and heals the heart, freeing it from fear and contraction. Our capacity for giving, both to others and ourselves, can in turn be fully awakened. We can dare to connect more fully to caring naturally for ourselves; to a boundless love for all beings; and to the empowering wish to serve and to share. In its perfection, generosity is compared with the sun that gives without discrimination, freely, without attachment or craving for rewards. During our time together we explore the heart-mind’s capability for generous presence and engagement.
The retreat is situated within the silent Insight Meditation tradition, and also offers elements rooted in the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, such as communal walking meditation (Walking as One); meditative bowing practices (Touching the Earth) and more. There will be reflections, suggestions, and opportunities to meet with the teachers. |
